About Us

The story of Bamboo Sportan starts in Chennai, India. Once there lived a team of sports enthusiasts with deep passion towards sports education. They enjoyed training athletes in various levels from grassroots till international arena in multiple sports. As years of training passed, one fine day the team realised that the pace and number of children rising up to competitive levels of sports were extremely low. They reflected back to find the root cause and understood that the intervention at the grass root level was not sufficient and not even of basic standards. Adding to that the awareness and the time invested in sport activities were decreasing. Precisely, sports had only been an extra-curriculum. The saddening part is that none of us in our society realised the consequence, which was adding up more obese kids, increase in % of kids with unhealthy BMI. These are clear indications leading to lifetime diseases at early stages. These instances & facts were hitting hard on this team and that triggered them to take the responsibility to uplift our Indian sports from the current miniscule level. Finally, all these problems were pointing towards only one solution that is to create a sports curriculum from Kindergarten till 12th grade and ensuring that the syllabus is globally recognized. After gathering years of expertise and deep work the curriculum was framed. Now we have teamed up to serve schools & communities across the nation with a strong Vision & Mission in name of Bamboo Sportan.

"To build a globally recognized sports curriculum and make it accessible to every child across the country by strengthening the fundamentals of sports education and nurture them from the grassroots until they become a high performing sports persons in a phased approach”.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We adopt the school’s physical education department holistically and offer a globally recognized sports curriculum for children from kindergarten till 12th grade. We start from training & certifying the in-house P.E coaches on our curriculum and assign a dedicated P.E consultant to monitor the implementation quality. We nurture the children on fundamental movement skills, induct them into basics of all major sports, help them identify and specialize in to a sport with a most curated age appropriate syllabus. Through this process every child is expected to achieve an all-round development of skills needed to play all sports. As they gradually scale up their skills, we Assess - Analyse – Document & Report every children’s physical education records online. By means of the historic record of every child, we give them a logical suggestion to identify and specialize into their sport for life. Engage them in fundamental locomotor and non-locomotor skills involved in all sports and strengthen the basics required to build expertise.

Nurture them in locomotor and manipulative skills and edify them on fitness and stress management to achieve physical and mental health for exploring major categories of sports.

Tutor them on advanced physical knowledge, fitness, sports and appropriate life skills, and coach them on the identified specialization for competitive advantage Parents can choose their ward to have a career in sports, or an experiential learning of every sport that becomes a hobby of their life time.

WHY DO WE DO IT?

We don’t need a mirror to see a wound on our palm. That’s how the need for such a sports curriculum is so evident need. Let’s bucket the needs in to four major aspects, Educational, Physical, Societal, and Mental.

  • Educational: Indian sports education for grassroots, is several decades backward. Early engagements helps in identifying the sports talent and gives an edge with longevity in their competitive stages. Sports is never considered as a profession and it’s still an extra-curricular activity and not included as a prime curriculum. Neither schools has a standard curriculum, space & time for sports nor parents has got the awareness. The problem lies as “what causes what”, like a chicken and egg scenario.
  • Physical: As generations passes we see lowered basic level of fitness, increasing obesity and un-healthy BMI in kids. Fewer cases leads to lifestyle diseases. Hence sports education becomes a solution to improve overall health, immunity & brain.
  • Societal: If you remember your school days, you’d have had at least one mathematics teacher who borrowed a physical education period and that sacrifice of physical education continues to happen even at home. Lot more hindrances to a healthy life are like; adulterated food weakening and worsening the immune system of a child and millions of distractions exist for today’s youth into immoral habits.
  • Mental: A personality development doesn’t happen only in classrooms & theories. A formal sports education help to build a kids personality majorly on the field with live practice on their discipline by respecting the rules, collaborating within team, managing challenges & pushing their endurance limits higher.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

A globally recognized curriculum, curated by sports scientists & SMEs is well integrated into the school routine sessions. Though we train & certify the in-house PETs, we dedicate a consultant to monitor & guide the quality of implementation on field. Adding robustness in the implementation of the curriculum, a Chief Consultant from Bamboo Sportan shall do an external quality audit on every batch progress & overall program quality.

The program categorises children into 4 stages while implementation:

Stage Syllabus
Stage 1
(0 – 6 Yrs)
Induct them into the very Basic Fundamental Movement skills (Body Management and Loco-motor Skills).
Stage 2
(7-9 Yrs)
Groom them with Fundamental Movement Skills (Body management, Loco-motor, and Object control Skills).
Stage 3
(10-12 Yrs)
Introduce them to multiple Sports and the relevant skills involved in each sport and games.
Stage 4
(13-16 Yrs)
Identify the area of sport or game suitable for the child to specialize and guide him to that goal.

Teaching methodologies are devised considering factors like, child’s psychology to engage every kind of child and strive for a 100% participation, structured lesson plans to have more productive time practicing. Through this process we will track the child’s skill progression, behaviour patterns, interest area and finally identify which domain of sport suits the child when he scales up to the right stage.

Managing Director.

A veteran Karate instructor of Budokai, the first institute to start-up Karate in India and a direct disciple of Renshi R.V.T. Mani, (Father of Indian Karate). Selvam had trained over 1000+ students over 30 years. Alongside teaching Karate, he is known for making his session cheerful, interesting, disciplined, share environmental exposure, and connect life lessons in his every class. He always stands as our benchmark for teaching. Precisely the root of Bamboo Sportan.

Dr.Vasanth
Chief Consultant - Sports & Exercise Science.

India’s first ever Sports Scientist (2012) and the chlorophyll of our Bamboo tree.
He hails with a huge wealth of academic titles in sports, next to his name:

  • Awarded Honorary Doctorate (wellness Studies), h.c, California USA. As the first Indian to get this recognition.
  • M.Sc. Advanced Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, UK.
  • A graduate from Dr. MGR Medical University and a certified Sports Physiotherapist from SPARRC Institute, Chennai.

He had practiced Sports Science in various arenas:

  • Started his career as a Physio Trainer in SNAP Fitness and joined Physiocareindia.co.in as a Sports Scientist-Performance Coach.
  • Joined Sri Ramachandra Medical College (Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Science Center SRASSC) as Sports Scientist (Biomechanics)
  • Headed product division of Sportism, where he designed curriculum for grass-root kids based on a globally recognized Canadian principle LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development).
  • Exclusively worked with national and international athletes during various time periods.
  • He was the first to propose a research on foot biomechanics (for Cricket Players) Podiatry assessment protocol using in-shoe pressure sensors among the cricket players for performance and injury prevention which was presented at the at ICC 5th World Congress of Science and Medicine in Cricket 2015, March 2015, Luna Park, Sydney, Australia.

Project Director

An AUSTSWIM certified (International certification) swimming coach, who had been a competitive swimmer for Tamil Nadu during his initial stages. His career started in an education company teaching the teachers and holds a decade of HR experience. These experiences had helped to formulate the teaching methodologies for Bamboo’s curriculum and also helped the team to build a strong delivery system to implement this curriculum on field.
